The Hebior mammoth is a very important specimen due to both its great size and butcher marks indicative of human interaction. With its death dated at 12,500 years ago determined by purified bone collagen samples, this specimen represents some of the oldest evidence of human activity in North America. The completeness of this skeleton from Wisconsin is also remarkable with 90% of the original fossil recovered.
