Smilodon fatalis skeleton

Smilodon has long been an iconic ice age mammal. It's enormous upper canines evolved to plunge into the flesh of large prey ambushed by this huge, formidable predator. Smilodon fatalis was the largest and most recent species of Smilodon, having gone extinct with the megafaunal extinction in North America just over 10,000 years ago. This specimen is a reproduction of the Smilodon exhibited in the University of Kansas Natural History Museum and Biodiversity Research Center.
